on Earth. More than 210 million copies of Windows XP have reportedly
been sold and Microsoft reports more than 106 million copies
of Service Pack 2 for XP have been distributed. Below are some

- 25 August 2007 The Windows
startup items page has been updated. This searchable page
now contains 14337 items.
- 09 February 2007 New software has been added to the
Windows freeware area
of the web site. AutoRun
secrets revealed is a free
application that will teach you how to create CD-ROMs that AutoRun
(start automatically) when inserted into a computer.
- 01 January 2007 Network Chico
recommends all Firefox users upgrade to version 2.0.0.1 or later.
- 23 February 2006 Microsoft has released the second
beta (beta 2) version of it's anti-spyware software now called
Windows Defender. Network
Chico recommends all users upgrade to this version.
- 03 January 2006 A new version of SpywareBlaster (3.5.1) is now available for
Windows users. Network

- 20 December 2005 The Windows
startup items page has been updated. This searchable page
now contains 11814 items.
- 09 December 2005 Mozilla has released Firefox 1.5. Network
Chico recommends all Firefox users upgrade to this
version.
- 06 December 2005 OpenOffice.org has released version 2.0 of
its freely available and freely developed successor to Sun's
StarOffice and is a full office suite available for Linux, Windows,
and Mac OS X.
- 31 July 2005 The Windows
startup items page has been updated. There are now 10247 items on this searchable page.
- 22 July 2005 Microsoft announces the new name for
it's upcoming version the Windows operating system that has been
code named 'Longhorn.' The new operating system will be called
'Windows Vista.' View the press release.
- 21 July 2005 Mozilla has released Firefox 1.0.6.
- 12 July 2005 Mozilla has released Firefox
1.0.5.
- 12 June 2005 On June 01, 2005 a new version of Spybot
Search and Destroy (1.4) was released. Network
Chico recommends that all Windows
users upgrade to the new version.
- 02 June 2005 A new tip has been added to the Windows
tips and tricks page. The tips explains how to create a suspend shortcut.
- 24 May 2005 The Start-up
Applications list has been updated. Currently the searchable
list contains 8841 items.
- 13 May 2005 Mozilla has released Firefox
1.0.4.
- 17 April 2005 Mozilla has released Firefox 1.0.3.
- 12 April 2005 Microsoft will now be automatically
begin downloading and installing Service Pack 2 to Windows XP
computers with automatic updates turned on.
- 24 March 2005 Mozilla has released Firefox 1.0.2.
- 21 March 2005 The Start-up
Applications list has been updated. Currently the searchable
list contains 7448 items.
- 21 March 2005 After April 12, 2005, Windows XP systems
will automatically begin downloading and installing Service Pack
2. If you haven't finished testing SP2 in your network environment
it's time to get moving. It is possible to get around this automatic
update but it's important that you understand which security
enhancements your organization will miss out on if you choose
this route. While it may be tempting to ignore the update the
security issues it addresses are worth the effort. If your organization
is not prepared to accept this update feel free to contact

- 05 March 2005 New software has been added to the Windows freeware section
of the web site. BHOCaptor
is a freeware application that lets you control the Internet
Explorer Browser Helper Objects that are installed on your system.
It makes it easy to see what BHOs are installed and to de-activate
or remove them.
- 03 March 2005 A new page has been added to the Windows section of the Network
Chico web site devoted to Windows
XP tips and tricks.
- 01 March 2005 Microsoft's Windows Update site will now only provide
security updates to Windows XP users who have either SP1 or SP2
installed. If you use Windows XP Network
Chico highly recommends installing Service Pack 2.

- 28 February 2005 Mozilla has released an updated version of
their Firefox browser. Version 1.0.1 features improved stability, International
Domain Names are now displayed as punycode and several security fixes. Network
Chico recommends using the Firefox browser as an alternative to Internet
Explorer in some situations.
