Network Chico recommends
the following settings for various web browser applications:
Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 and 7: Web browser
cookie handling can be greatly improved by taking the following
simple action. Open the Internet Options control panel
(via the Control Panel or from the Tools menu in Explorer) and
click on the Privacy tab. Under Settings click
Advanced. Check the box beside Override automatic cookie
handling. The select to Accept first-party cookies,
Block third-party cookies and check the box beside Always
allow session cookies. This should greatly reduce the number
of spyware cookies placed on your machine.

Mozilla/Netscape Navigator 7: Choose Preferences
from the Edit menu. Under Privacy & Security
choose Cookies. From there you should choose to either
Enable cookies for the originating web site only (first-party
cookies) or better still choose the Enable cookies based on
privacy settings option and then click View to see
and adjust the privacy settings. The privacy settings offer quite
a bit of control over browser cookie handling.
Mozilla Firefox 1.x:
From the Tools menu choose Options and then click
on the icon called Privacy. From here you have control
over how the browser handles all the files it receives such as
cookies and temporary (cache) files. For cookies it is
recommended that you choose to allow cookies from the originating
web site only and to only keep cookies until Firefox exits though
it is acceptible to keep them until they expire. You can also
choose the Clear All button near the bottom to delete
all files collected via browsing.
Opera: Open Preferences from the Tools
menu. Click on Privacy in the list on the left then open
the pull-down list about Third party cookies on the right
and set it to Refuse all cookies.
A free scan is available to find and delete a range of Internet
tracking devices. The Zone Labs security scanner requires Internet
Explorer v5.01 or higher.
